 The ants and the grasshopper

Find Specific Information

1.  What bush creatures are included in the story? Wasps,

huhu grubs, grasshoppers, ants.

2. What did the grasshopper do during the first summer of the

story? Relax in the sun and play music and then the huhu

grubs invited him to a party

winter? He served them food and he fixed the roof when it was

leaking and he stayed awake when the ants were sleeping.

4. How did the huhu grubs pay the grasshopper? Food.

Show your understanding

1.Why did the grasshopper decide to charge the huhu grubs

for making music for them? For their party. He wanted to earn

food and pay back the ants

2. Why did the ants sigh at the grasshopper? Because it was

so typical of a grasshopper to do this .

3. Why did the grasshopper ask the huhu grubs to give some

food to the ants? Because the ants saved his life and he

wanted to pay them back by giving them food for the

next winter.

4. What elements of fable did this story have? Animals that

behave like humans and make us learn a lesson.

Find the Moral =  make hay while the sun shines= to prepare

when you can before the hard times come

Describe a character = Grasshopper

He plays music all summer and does not work and does not

collect food for winter.

Make inferences =  the ants talk in sharp sentences because

there are a lot of them and because they are too busy.

Digital Technology matariki project - blue bots and Qr codes

For matariki we learnt about stars. We made a special blue bots mat. On the mat we had Qr codes and when we landed on a Qr code with the blue bots we scanned it with a iPad and it took us to a matariki drawing and it told us about the stars. There were nine stars and that each star has its own name and something that it is connected to like the sea or the weather.
